On October 7, 2011, Amizade lost a dear friend, Nicholas Osei Koduah. A leader of the Ghana Students Association, community activist and a beautiful force for good, Nicholas continuously worked to better his community of Anhwiam, a village not far from Amizade’s site in Jukwa, Ghana.
In honor of Nicholas, recent Amizade volunteer alum, Erik Mohn is working closely with community leaders in Nicholas’s village and Peace Humanity International- the Ghanaian NGO that is Amizade’s partner in Ghana- to raise the necessary funds to repair a water pipe in Nicholas’s village of Anhwiam. The water pipe, which has been broken and out of use for 4 years, would provide clean water to the entire community which currently relies on contaminated river water for drinking, cooking and bathing. It was Nicholas’s dream to have the water pipe repaired and a project that Erik wholeheartedly took on as soon as he met Nicholas and visited his community.
We are asking you to join us in helping to bring Nicholas’s dream to life. Our goal is to raise the $2,500 by December 15th, 2011 so that the pipe will be fixed by January 15th. All donations are tax deductible and be be made via Amizade’s secure website, please note that you would like your contribution to go towards The Anhwiam Water Pipe Initiative.
Once the funds have been raised, Amizade will send the money directly to Peace Humanity International in Ghana who will hire a local company to complete the repairs. In addition to fixing the pipe, we are in the process of developing an effective monitoring system, to ensure proper maintenance of the pipe, and researching additional options to ensure access to safe drinking water.
Every dollar helps and each donation gets us one step closer to honoring our dear friend and providing safe water to the community he worked so tirelessly to help.
Thank you all for your generous support!
