Congratulations accepted students! As you prepare for your global service-learning experience, there are a number of important paperwork steps and deadlines you must complete. Each step takes you one step closer to your journey. Follow these 3 easy steps to start planning your trip!
Step 1: Program Confirmation and Payment
By submitting your Payment Agreement Form as part of your application, you have already confirmed your participation – and we’re delighted to have you serving and learning with us! Please refer to your Payment Agreement Form and be mindful of the payment deadlines for your course.
All Amizade program costs are to be paid to West Virginia University through the Office of Student Accounts. Please be sure that the appropriate charges have been posted to your WVU Student Account prior to making any payments. You must include your WVU Student ID Number with all payments to make sure your account gets properly credited.
Step 2: Review and Complete Your Program Participation Requirements
All students must thoroughly review and complete the following documents:
- Amizade handbook for the country to which you will be traveling
- WVU/ Amizade Program Information Packet(pdf)
- WVU/ Amizade Acceptance Packet (pdf)
- Amizade’s Pre-Departure Survey
All students must submit the above information to Amizade 45 days before their program start date. Failing to do so could result in your inability to participate.

Step 3: Complete Your Travel Preparations
All students traveling abroad are required to have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date their Amizade program concludes. Information on how to obtain a passport is located in the WVU/Amizade Program Information Packet. A You must provide Amizade with a photocopy of your passport prior to departure.
Health & Immunizations
Participants must comply with the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) travel and immunization requirements and recommendations for the locations they are traveling. It is your responsibility to consult with your physician and to be sure you have all the required immunizations needed for travel to the course locations.
US Citizens traveling to the following countries are required to obtain a country visa:
Amizade will help facilitate the process for obtaining a visa. Students will receive information on how to go about applying for their visa 4-8 weeks in advance of the program.
You must provide Amizade with a photocopy of your visa prior to departure.
NOTE: Other countries where Amizade programs take place will allow you to visit without a visa for certain periods. If you are planning on staying longer than the scheduled Amizade program dates or have other special circumstances, please visit the US State Department website for visa information here.
Amizade works with specific travel agents to find the best rates available as well as group discounts. Depending on your program, you may need to travel with the group or you may choose to travel independently. Please do not purchase airfare until you have received information from Amizade about airfare options. A Students will receive information on how to go about purchasing their airfare 4-8 weeks in advance of the program.
