SUMMER AND SEMESTER SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
We encourage students to apply for one or more of the summer and semester scholarships listed below. Students will be considered for more than one award per term as long as all scholarship requirements have been completed by the deadline. Scholarship applicants should have started an Amizade program application by the scholarship deadline.

Amizade summer and semester scholarships are not intended to impact the financial aid provided by your home institution, however, we encourage you to contact the appropriate office to report any scholarship funds. There are also many other grants and scholarships available and creative ways for you to save and fundraise for your study abroad program.
GILMAN SUPPORT
Amizade encourages Pell Grant eligible students to apply for the Gilman Scholarship. Amizade will award students who receive the Gilman Scholarship an additional $500 toward their program. Students who are awarded a Gilman scholarship should forward the Gilman award notification letter to their Amizade Program Advis0r. Amizade will disburse Gilman support awards once the final list of awardees is available on the Gilman website.
DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP
Semester & Summer Programs
Amizade is committed to supporting students from diverse ethnic, faith, sexual and gender identity, and socio-economic backgrounds, including first-generation college students. Diversity Scholarships provide $1,500 towards Amizade semester programs and $1,000 towards summer programs. To be considered, please fulfill the following requirements:

• Short Essay (250 – 500 words): Please submit a short statement detailing how you imagine your social identities might impact or be impacted by your study abroad experience. Why does diversity matter in study abroad?
Impact Semester Scholarship
Amizade works to create a world where diverse communities connect freely, forge lasting relationships, and build a more just planet together. The Social Justice scholarship provides $500 to students who are committed to spending their semester abroad building these connections. To be considered, please fulfill the following requirements:

• Short Essay (250 – 500 words): Please discuss how you plan to connect to Amizade’s mission and values while abroad OR how our mission and values encouraged you to study abroad with Amizade.
Semester Storyteller Scholarship
Generate funds while abroad by sharing your experiences on social media! Amizade will award up to 5 social media-savvy students per study abroad term with the opportunity to partner with us for this unique scholarship. Share images and videos, write blogs and host social media takeovers on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube, and Snapchat! Use this experience to help build your resume, gain social media experience, generate extra spending money for your time abroad and get recognized as an official Amizade Storyteller.
As a semester Storyteller, you will receive $150/month* (up to 3 months) to provide quality content in the areas listed below. Students who are applying to study abroad for an academic year are eligible to apply again for their second semester. *Monthly payment will be awarded after content is submitted for each month. Scholarship funds will not exceed $450 total for 3 months of content.
Semester Storytellers are required to provide a minimum of:
20 quality images per month
1 video per month
2 blogs for the semester
1 social media takeover per semester
OTHER SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
There are many outside organizations that offer grants and scholarships for study abroad students to help offset the cost of the program and travel. Below is a list of some of these scholarships and some search engines that you can use to identify additional scholarships for which you may be eligible to apply.
OTHER AVAILABLE STUDY ABROAD GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS
Boren Scholarships: This scholarship allows U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests but underrepresented in study abroad.
Diversity Abroad Scholarships: These awards ensure that students from diverse economic, educational, ethnic and social backgrounds have equal access and take advantage of the benefits and opportunities afforded through global education exchanges.
Fund for Education Abroad: FEA offers study abroad scholarships up to $10,000. Applicants from underrepresented groups in study abroad and those studying in non-traditional locations are given preference.
Go Overseas Study Abroad Scholarship: GO Overseas supports international education through scholarships available to students participating in study abroad programs. Scholarships are awarded each year. The scholarship is awarded based on the creativity and analytical thinking displayed through writing samples and/or video submissions. The award for each scholarship is $500.
LGBTQ Scholarships: To support LGBTQ students who are ready to take on the challenge of studying abroad, many organizations, institutions, and associations have established study abroad scholarships to specifically provide financial assistance to LGBTQ students.
