Study Arabic language and human rights with Amizade’s summer Arabic language program in Tetouan.
A small Moroccan city nestled between Tangier, Morocco and Algeciras, Spain, Tetouan offers cultural immersion and exciting glimpses of Moroccan life for beginner to Advanced Arabic-language learners.
Host families welcome participants to take part in every-day activities. Depending on the calendar, you may even join your host family in breaking the fast during Ramadan. Nature enthusiasts will also enjoy beautiful beaches that are some of the most noteworthy in the Mediterranean area and are only a few kilometers from the city, and the sprawling Rif mountain range that spreads more than 500 kilometers from Tetouan.

Dar Loughat Cross-Cultural Language Center is a professional language center in Morocco providing intensive courses in all levels of Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Moroccan Arabic. In addition to language learning, Amizade students will participate in a class designed to support students in critically analyzing the relationship between human rights in Islam and human rights policies and practices in modern secular states.
At Dar Loughat, you benefit from individualized attention through small-sized classes of between three and eight students (maximum) and a wide range of excursions as well as social and cultural activities. Through these, Dar Loughat provides you daily contact with Moroccan life, allowing you to expand your vocabulary, improve your spoken language performance and better understand the local culture.
Wake up and join your host family for breakfast before walking to Dar Loughat’s classroom for your daily Arabic-language instruction. You’ll join other students in visiting local cafes for lunch, followed by opportunities to explore Moroccan art, henna, calligraphy and music in afternoon activities. Practice your Arabic as you wander Tetouan’s ancient medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Housing: You will live with host families and breakfast and dinner will be provided, however, lunch will be on your responsibility. In your host family’s home, you will either have a single room or a shared room with another Dar Loughat student or family member of similar age. Bathrooms are shared with the families. Dar Loughat has a free Wi-Fi connection during school hours for students who bring their laptops.
CULTURE & RECREATION
In addition to the daily events offered through Dar Loughat, you’ll learn more about Moroccan art and history through a visit to the Royal Artisan School. Here you’ll see age-old techniques for painting, woodwork, metalwork, ceramics, stucco carving and textiles. Travel to Chefchouan, one of the most picturesque towns in all of Morocco. Known as the “Blue Pearl” for its blue-washed buildings, this small mountain village is situated in the beautiful Rif mountain range.
