Pittsburgh Fair Trade Store to Host an Amizade Shopping Night

by Amizade Global Service-Learning

Come support Amizade during our Holiday Shopping Night at the Pittsburgh Ten Thousand Villages store, Tuesday, November 11, 6-8 pm, 5824 Forbes Ave in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood. Fifteen percent of net sales rung during the evening will be donated to Amizade.

Ten Thousand Villages is a fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe. They seek to establish long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans are under- or unemployed, and in which they lack other opportunities for income – including in Mexico, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Tanzania, where Amizade also has partnerships.

As one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages has spent more than 60 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted items.

Since this is the gift giving season, what better way to shop than by buying gifts that give three times – to the gift recipient, to the artisans by providing a living wage, and to Amizade.
