Health & Safety: Chikungunya Virus

by Amizade Global Service-Learning

The health and safety of our participants is of the utmost importance to us at Amizade. We have provided more than 8,000 safe placements over the past 20 years, and we continue to closely monitor and inform our partners of issues across the world.

In light of recent news surrounding an outbreak of the Chikungunya Virus, our partners at Armada Global have provided the following assessment informing travelers about Chikungunya, a virus spread by infected mosquitoes. The virus has now been detected in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.

After careful consideration, Amizade is continuing to run our programs safely in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. We will continue to monitor the situation and update our partners and volunteers with any relevant changes. In the case that programs need to be cancelled, all participants will be notified.

For more detailed information including information about symptoms, treatment, and precautions you can take to avoid the virus, we encourage you to review the assessment provided by Armada Global.
