Global Service & Ethical Photography Contest

Taking photos, documenting your journey, and sharing photos with friends and family are all an integral part of the experience of travel. Yet, taking and sharing photographs carries with it a responsibility; a responsibility to consider the context, ethics, and power of our actions. At Amizade we encourage each and every participant we work with to keep the Values of Amizade in mind as they travel: Community-Driven Service, Deliberate Learning, Intercultural Immersion and Exchange, Consideration of Global Citizenship, and Reflective Inquiry. We believe these same values should be considered when sharing the images and memories of a global service-learning experience.
With this is mind, we are proud to support the Global Service & Ethical Photography Contest hosted by our friends at globalsl.org. The contest:
- is open to anyone who is interested and would like to engage in ethical photography.
- is easy to enter.
- promotes discussion on ethical service and photography.
- makes you eligible for one of three $100 prizes.
We encourage anyone who is interested to visit the Contest Guidelines page to review the selected blog posts and policy briefs to enhance their understanding of ethical photography, which draws on the leadership of several global NGOs and individual trail blazers in ethical global service and development partnership.
The contest begins immediately with the first round of judging occurring April 17.
Visit the Global Service & Ethical Photography Contest for more information and details about how to participate. Remember – Anyone can enter – this is meant to explicitly recognize that anyone can participate in cooperation across cultures, and anyone can tell a story about that cooperation.
Finally, if you choose to enter a photograph from your Amizade experience, tag it with #AmizadeGSL, we love to see what you’ve been up to!
