Kate Reeves | Brazil Site Director

In 2004, Kate trained to be a Registered Nurse at Leeds University, UK, later specializing in Oncology and Palliative Care.
Upon completing two years of post-graduate Chemotherapy training she took a gap year, traveling through seven countries in South East Asia, North and Central America, New Zealand and Australia, where she was offered a work Sponsorship at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. During the following six years she studied a further Bachelors Degree in Nursing at the University Of Sydney and in 2013 was granted Australian Citizenship.
In 2011, Kate traveled for the first time to Brazil and became quickly captivated with the Brazilian culture, people and particularly the music and language. On the return from her second trip in early 2013 she made the decision to leave her life in Australia and move to South Brazil, where she applied for a two-year student visa and studied ‘Português para Estrangeiros’ at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. During this time, she also volunteered in the ‘Hospital Mãe de Deus’ and community led Children’s Creche on the outskirts of the city.
Kate returned to England in 2015 with a new passion for global health and a desire to use her skills in Healthcare to help and teach others in less fortunate circumstances. It was then she decided to move to London and was accepted to The University of Foreign Medicine and Tropical Diseases to study a Diploma in Tropical Nursing later applying to Amizade with a strong aspiration to work in Brasil.
