Suzanne Unger Freeman, PhD
Suzanne developed a passion for non-traditional education while teaching gifted elementary school students. Then, through her work as the Director of Student Programs and Curriculum for the global nonprofit, Operation Smile, she strived to empower students from fifty-four countries who sought to make a positive difference in the lives of others. This career inspired Suzanne to enter a graduate program and ultimately focus on studying the impacts of service-learning. Her research in this area served as a vehicle to connect Suzanne to Amizade in 2013, when she became the organization’s Washington D.C. Site Director. Currently, Suzanne is a Project Manager for WHRO’s Online Education Department, and develops online and blended courses for school systems throughout Virginia. Suzanne received her Master’s Degree from the University of Virginia, and her PhD from Old Dominion University.
