Nina’s Here to Stay!

by Amizade Global Service-Learning

Nina is from the Pittsburgh area, originally from Monreoville, and a graduate of Gateway High School.  As Nina proudly shared with me, she comes from a blended family; she has two half sisters and two half brothers – not to mention three dogs and a cat.  Upon graduating from high school Nina decided she wanted to stay in the Pittsburgh area and chose Point Park for it’s small class sizes and beautiful, downtown campus.

Through the course of her studies, Nina decided to pursue a B.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in global cultural studies.  It was her interest in global affairs that first sparked her interest in Amizade.  In January of 2015, Nina became the Operations Intern, working directly under Katie Baucco, our Operations Director.  Having been an intern with Amizade for roughly a year, Nina has experience in non-profit financial management, service learning,  and cross- cultural collaboration.  She very much appreciates the opportunity to be able to have a direct, and real-world way to use the knowledge acquired in school; and although she doesn’t know exactly what her career path will be (let’s cut her some slack, she just graduated), she is inspired to pursue work that attempts to make a positive impact on the world.

As the Assistant Program Coordinator, Nina is responsible for all of the prepping prior to the start of a program as well as all post program follow-up.  This means that she processes participant applications, ensures that groups receive their Amizade journals and t-shirts, provides access to our online evaluations, keeps group leaders on track in regards to paperwork, and coordinates post-program feedback.  And this doesn’t even include all of the additional work that Nina takes on to support the rest of us in the office.

Nina has always been a wonderful addition to the Amizade team, and we are excited and grateful that she is staying.  Congratulations Nina!
