A Thanksgiving of Service: Making a Difference in Rural Jamaica
Location: Petersfield, Jamaica
Service: Work with Jamaican children enrolled in the Association of Clubs’ annual summer camp; Volunteers are sorely needed and highly valued
Housing: Homestays with families
Travel Highlights: Program includes visits to local and tourist beaches as well as frequent community events and cultural activities
Program Description:
You’ll meet with and learn from Amizade’s community partner since 2003, the Association of Clubs (AOC). The AOC has been recognized by the Jamaican Government for its excellence in locally-driven rural community development. Each year, the AOC works with community members to identify projects for Amizade volunteers. Sometimes these efforts include helping with building projects, developing parks, or working with local children. Whatever your service, you’ll provide much-needed support to the AOC and the families it serves, and you’ll have a great time with a wonderful group of people. You’ll stay with local families who are part of the AOC network, where you’ll experience a warm introduction to Jamaican life and insightful commentary on local experiences.
