Teaching English at the Edge of the Tourist Economy along the Mayan Riviera

Travel Highlights: Program includes opportunity to visit Mayan sites, experience beautiful Caribbean beaches, and swim in Cenotes (freshwater caves on the Yucatan Peninsula)

Program Description:

You’ll experience the Caribbean Coastal Community of Puerto Morelos, where Amizade has worked with volunteers and community organizations for the past several years. In Puerto Morelos, you’ll have opportunities to visit regional Mayan sites and learn about the intersection of mega-tourism with local communities. You’ll also visit the original site for harvesting gum for chicle production, have opportunities to swim in Cenotes, and appreciate the Caribbean Sea. Most importantly, in this beautiful and inviting location, you’ll have opportunities to support young people’s efforts to improve their English language skills.
