Program Description:In the “City of Eternal Spring,” delight in breathtaking views of the Andes Mountains as you work to make a true difference in the education of Bolivian students. Lend a hand to build new classrooms in rural schools and offer instruction to students with special needs. This special service learning opportunity leads you out of the classroom to experience Bolivian culture and daily life, and offers visits to local Inca archaeological sites and explorations of historic landmarks including the mansion home of one-time tin baron Simon Patino.
Highlights:
Join a learned anthropologist for an exploration of a newly discovered archaeological dig site of Inca artefacts in Quillacollo.
Visit a center dedicated to the service of children and young adults with special needs and learn about its vocational programs.
Explore the ruins of Incallajta — the largest Inca complex in Boliva — including the Kallanka, living quarters and waterfall that served as a source of fresh water.
Activity Particulars:
Work site terrain includes slab floors and dirt yard. Some optional excursions require walking over uneven terrain for about 1 mile with 2-300 feet change in altitude. Short standing times at museums and archaeological sites. Elevations up to 7,000 feet.
