TREETOPS - Childhood Bereavement
For some years Treetops has been meeting with families who have suffered a sudden, traumatic death within the family circle. These meetings have made us more and more aware of the suffering of bereaved children and young people.
Treetops is a support program for small groups of children who have experienced a sudden death in the family. It is a place where children and parents can meet others who have had a similar experience. Treetops provides opportunities to share stories, express feelings and worries and explore fears and hopes for the future. It uses art, drama, puppets, games, songs and stories to help children express their true feelings.
The Treetops task Is to offer a six-week group for bereaved children who have suffered the sudden loss of a close family member or friend. This group meets in Corrymeela House, Belfast and is led by three members of the Treetops team. At the same time the parents of the children meet in another room with another two members of the team.
