Dear Eric,
The Board of Directors and Staff of Amizade wish you
and your loved
ones a wonderful holiday season and upcoming year.
2003 is brimming with promise. At 14 community sites in
over a dozen countries, Amizade volunteers will
contribute over 20,000 hours of service. As we all
gather with loved ones to
savor a few moments of peace and togetherness,
we will also be looking forward to upcoming
opportunities.
We will be looking forward to another purposeful year
with hundreds of amazing volunteers who are
continuously committed to spreading the spirit of
peace and understanding around the world. Thank you
for sharing your vision and passion with Amizade. It
takes courage and commitment to sacrifice vacation for
service. We are thankful for your efforts and look
forward to continuing to work with you and thousands
more committed volunteers in service to society. Happy
Holidays.

| Amizade Open House a Success |
 |
AT RIGHT: Amizade staff gather for an evening that
included preparation for a mailing, discussion focused
on how reflective activities during Amizade experiences
can help encourage and reinforce intercultural
understanding, and a fine spaghetti dinner.
OPEN HOUSE - December 4, 2002, Pittsburgh: Amizade
friends, staff, and curious members of the
public gathered at Pittsburgh's Ober
Braus Haus to celebrate Amizade's mission and improve
its public profile. As world music played in the
background, a rolling presentation explained Amizade's
mission and programs. Midway through the evening,
Amizade Director Michael
Sandy addressed a filled room that included Pittsburgh
Mayor Tom Murphy. After thanking the crowd for
coming, he noted that he feels that the Amizade staff
and volunteers make miracles happen.
Throughout the evening, members of the public and
representatives from nonprofit organizations and
universities filtered through the room. Many attended
due to an article in the previous Sunday's Pittsburgh
Post-Gazette that mentioned Amizade's efforts and
Open House.
Members of the Amizade family who were unable to
attend may still share in the festivities. The PowerPoint
presentation will eventually be online and the short and
long sleeve t-shirts that Amizade offered as Donor
Appreciation Gifts are still available as well.

| Amizade Alumnus Publishes Her Experience! |

After taking advantage of Amizade's list of travel and
service-related free-lance opportunities, Amizade Alum
Ashley Ruszkowski was rewarded with an article in
Student Traveler. A University of Pittsburgh student
who participated in a travel-writing trip to Bolivia,
Ashley also recently published an article about her
Amizade experience in the University of Pittsburgh's
student newspaper, The Pitt News.
Other Amizade alumni have shared their experiences in
publications ranging from Travels.com to the Tidewater
Times. Click on the link on the sidebar to view free-
lance opportunities for those who choose international

| Extending Holiday Generosity - Worldwide |
 |
By Cate Hodorowicz - Tired of giving and receiving
those heavy fruitcakes during the holiday season? If
so, consider giving the gift of Amizade to your
neighbors, family and friends! It's the gift that keeps
on giving (not to mention that it frees up space in your
freezer for that leftover Christmas ham), because when
you take part in Amizade's Holiday Giving Campaign,
you'll know that your donation will go to a cause that
improves lives around the globe - from Nepal to Brazil,
the Navajo Nation to Bolivia, and this summer with the
help of generous contributors Amizade will begin
projects in Tanzania and Jamaica.
The simple fact is this: without your participation,
Amizade cannot continue its mission to explore, serve,
and understand with communities around the world. In
real terms, what that means is: medical supplies will no
longer reach an orphanage in Bolivia; a crumbling school
in Nepal will not receive needed renovations; and an
historic ranch in Yellowstone National Park will be left to
deteriorate.
Besides, who really wants another fruitcake when
instead they can have the happiness of knowing
they've impacted a global service project? So instead
of worrying about baking, send your family and friends a
holiday card that explains Amizade's mission and the
donation you've made in their name. You might also
mention to them that because Amizade is a registered
501(c)(3), all donations are tax-deductible. You never
know - others too may be inspired to take part in the
Holiday Giving Campaign and abandon those candied
breads forever.

| Amizade Logo Design Contest Winner |
 |
|
After carefully reviewing all of the submissions to
Amizade's Logo Contest, the contest committee chose
Jason Yurkovich's submission for Amizade's new logo.
Artists from throughout the Pittsburgh region offered
many good submissions. Symbolizing exploration,
service, and understanding, however, is no small task.
Yurkovich's submission was far and away the best of
the group. Already, Amizade is using the new design on
presentations, in publications, and on recently
produced t-shirts. Amizade is fortunate to have the
donated services of this up-and-coming design artist.
The new logo will go everywhere Amizade goes: Around
the world!
